My experience with development of web based applications in tightly connected to the company WebStep where I am still paritcipating.
I am creating web sites with help of simple CMS system FlexiWeb that allows easy and flexible web site administration and is intended for small to middle web sites. There is also possibility to extend the system with custom applications and templates. Read more about FlexiWeb. One of the advanced web application using FlexiWeb and other custom modules is focused to touristic web sites.
Additionaly to the web applications development I prefer webhosting and other services by WebStep.
